High Mowing Organic Seeds’ Annual Spring Social – March 17th, 2012

With this warm winter, our thoughts are turning to spring and the start of the new growing season!

Please join us for tours of our warehouse, tours of our hoop house where we are conducting over-wintering trials, or attend a workshop in Succession Planting. At the end we’ll wrap it up with a potluck dinner and slideshow!

Who: Farmers and gardeners

What: Spring Social with High Mowing Seeds for food, fun, and sharing growing tips with friends.

When: Saturday, March 17th, 3:00-6:30PM

Where: High Mowing Organic Seeds warehouse is located at 76 Quarry Road in Wolcott, Vermont. We are just off Rte 15, across from the Fisher Covered Bridge, between Wolcott and Hardwick. 802-472-6174.

Why: To emerge from winter’s hibernation and celebrate the coming spring!

3 – 3:45 PM, CHOOSE ONE:
Tour of High Mowing Seeds Warehouse
If you haven’t ever been to our facility, this is a great opportunity to learn about the inner workings of our warehouse.  High Mowing founder, Tom Stearns, will lead an interesting tour about the journey our seeds take after leaving the field and before they arrive at your door, including the seed cleaning process, our in-house lab, and our packing facility.

Tour of HMS Winter Greens Hoop House Trials
Trials Manager Gwenael Engelskirchen and Tom Stearns will focus on our NRCS-funded tunnel and the over-wintering trials that we are conducting this year.  Learn about our second year of winter spinach trials, over-wintering lettuce and brassicas.  We will also take a look at our test seed production project.

4 – 4:45 PM, CHOOSE ONE:

Succession Planting for Gardeners Workshop
Join Holly Simpson, High Mowing Sales Associate, to get some pointers about how to plan for succession plantings of crops to ensure a continuous supply all summer!

5 – 6:30PM:
Potluck, Networking, & Slideshow
We’ll head across the street to the Vermont Food Bank building to eat delicious food, chat with one another, and watch a slideshow that will give you a sense of what we do in our seed production fields here at High Mowing.  If you are able, please bring a dish or drink to share!

    Four of us will be coming to the social from the 1780 Farm, Chesterfield NH. We are very interested in the high tunnel greenhouse and growing through the winter since we have one on order and plan to have it in use this fall. We hope we can discuss it one on one at some point on saturday. Thank you, Ron
