A gourmet quality bean with commercial yields for fresh market sales or the garden. Large plants average 18-22” tall. Beans average 6-7” long and are glossy medium-green in color. Yields are comparable to Provider and Strike. Heat tolerant. Pale green seed. (Phaseolus vulgaris) Disease Resistance: Bean Common Mosaic Virus (BV1, NY15), Curly Top Virus, Rust   Organic Boro F1 Hybrid Beet 50 days One of the sweetest beets we have ever tasted! Its sweet flavor, field resistance to leaf spots and ability to size up and stay tender offer a wide range of uses. Juicy red roots can be harvested at any time from baby to beyond the 3” standard and will remain smooth and in good quality at sizes up to 6”. Tops average 12” tall and regenerate quickly making for clean healthy leaves throughout the growing season. (Beta vulgaris)   Organic Touchstone Gold Beet 55 days From the breeders of Red Ace F1 and Guardsmark Chioggia comes an improved golden beet. Touchstone Gold offers higher germination rates, more uniform round roots and less zoning than standard golden types. Solid green tops are long and attractive, and quickly shade out weeds. Vibrant golden yellow flesh retains its color when cooked and is sweet and milder than red beets. Best germination occurs in warm temperatures. (Beta vulgaris)   Organic Belstar F1 Hybrid Broccoli 65-70 days Our most heat tolerant broccoli for spring, summer and fall crops. Compact plants have round domes, small to medium beads and short flowering stems with a thick main stalk. Domes span 6-8” at maturity averaging 1.5 lbs. Ideal for short-stemmed crown cuts or florets. High resistance to Downy Mildew, Fusarium Yellows and Wilt. (Brassica italica) Disease Resistance: Downy Mildew, Fusarium Yellows and Wilt   Capture F1 Hybrid Cabbage 85 days A Black Rot resistant cabbage for organic growers! Capture is a full size green cabbage for fresh market or processing. It has short term storage ability and will grow best in susceptible climate zones where Black Rot has been present. Heads average 4-6 lbs each and sit high on the stalk with good wrapper leaves. Plantings are uniform and hold well in the field without cracking. High resistance to Black Rot and thrips. (Brassica oleracea) Disease Resistance: Fusarium Yellows and Wilt, Black Rot, Thrips Janvel F1 Hybrid Cauliflower 75 days Gorgeous, high-quality heads with nice dome shape and excellent uniformity. In our trials, Janvel outperformed Fremont in both yield and presentation, and had a slightly longer harvest window. Perfectly formed heads range from 6-8” in diameter and are well-protected by tight wrapper leaves. Vigorous plants have tall leaves which provide excellent sunburn protection for curds, resulting in perfect, white heads. Dense, well-filled curds make this an attractive variety for both fresh market and processing. (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis)   Luscious F1 Hybrid Corn 75 days BI-COLOR Our best selling sweet corn. Luscious offers outstanding Tablesweet (se+) buttery-sweet flavor and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. Ears average 8” and are blocky in shape, with 16-18 rows of kernels. Easy-to-pick ears start 2' above the ground and are tightly wrapped with good tip fill. Well-adapted to many regions. Average cool soil emergence. (Zea maize)   Allure F1 Hybrid Corn 75 days BI-COLOR Seductive sweetness in a high-quality bicolor! Allure is the first organically available synergistic sweet corn, combining confectionary sweetness with excellent seedling vigor. Slender 8” ears have good tip fill, and biting into the tender yellow and white kernels results in a juicy “pop”. Sturdy stalks grow 6-7’ tall in an impressively uniform stand. When the trials crew harvested sweet corn from our 2013 trials, Allure was the preferred variety to set aside for personal reserves. Intermediate resistance to NCLB, common rust, and Stewart’s bacterial wilt. (Zea maize)   Green Finger Cucumber 60 days Beit alpha type, with thin skin, exceptional flavor and a small seed cavity. Beit alphas are similar to European slicers but shorter, averaging 8-10”. Green Finger has more durability than most varieties of this type and stores just as well as American slicers without needing to be wrapped. Quality and outdoor yields blew away hybrids in our 2008 trials. Bred by Cornell University as a field crop, and also a good choice for high tunnels and open greenhouses where insects are present for pollination. Excellent disease resistance, and high tolerance to Angular Leaf Spot. (Cucumis sativus) Disease Resistance: Powdery Mildew, Papaya Ringspot Virus, Watermelon Mosaic Virus, Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Virus   Ping Tung Long Eggplant 70 days HEIRLOOM A prolific, early producing Asian eggplant with glossy purple skin and bright green calyx. Slender fruits average 12-18” long and 1-2” wide. This variety can yield up to 20 fruits per plant and are vigorous and stress tolerant. Stake plants to maintain straight fruits. Very tender skin does not need to be peeled. Good disease tolerance. Awesome on the grill! (Solanum melongena)   Diamond Eggplant 70 days We were so excited to discover this variety in our trials fields and it has really proven itself a standout for several seasons now. This OP eggplant is a very prolific and early producer. The slender, attractive dark purple fruit hang in clusters for easy picking. Diamond has a mild flavor and lacks bitterness as well as having a fine, creamy texture. Fruit is medium in size; 2-3” by 6-8”. (Solanum melongena)     Red Giant Mustard Greens 23 days baby, 45 full size Our most popular mustards for salad mixes! Baby greens have bright green leaves with deep purple veins. Full size plants are incredibly beautiful with a full whorl of stunning burgundy leaves. Spiciness increases with maturity. Use full size leaves for stir-fry, soups and pickling. (Brassica juncea)   Runner F1 Hybrid Leek 105 days Fall leek with great holding capacity in the field. In our 2012 fall leek trials, Runner compared favorably to Megaton in overall size, girth and foliage health. High percentage of marketable, uniform and easy to peel 1 – 1.5” shafts. Erect plants with upright foliage make for easy bunching and easier cultivation. (Allium porrum)   Nevada Lettuce 55 days full size Excellent summer variety! Batavian or French crisp type that forms large, open heads. Vibrant green leaves are glossy, thick, and beautifully ruffled with a satisfying combination of crunchy texture and buttery smoothness. Batavian types are perfect for summer planting due to excellent bolt resistance while still maintaining good texture and flavor in the hot summer sun. Available as raw and pelleted seed. (Lactuca sativa) Disease Resistance: Tip Burn, Lettuce Mosaic Virus, Downy Mildew MTO-10 Lovelock Lettuce 48 days full size A heat-tolerant, heading Batavian lettuce for production all season long. Lovelock has whorls of bright green leaves with deep red coloring on the leaf margins. Heads close in late at maturity creating a dense crisp head. A stand out in our trials for a number of years. Almost identical to Luana with more disease resistance and darker red tinge on the leaves. (Lactuca sativa) Disease Resistance: Downy Mildew (races 1-26), Lettuce Mosaic Virus, MTO-30 Sivan F1 Hybrid Melon 82 days CHARENTAIS Reliable fruit set; excellent resistance to Powdery Mildew. A huge hit in our trials every year. Small round melons with smooth, heavily netted skin. Fruits average 1.5-2 lbs. Deep orange, fine-grained flesh and superior sugary flavor. An excellent melon for market, wholesale or the garden. Harvest at half-slip and ripen for three days at 70°F, then chill. (Cucumis melo) Disease Resistance: Powdery Mildew Rona F1 Hybrid Melon 82 days GALIA Sweet, aromatic flavor in a green-flesh melon. Rona is a round, netted melon ranging from 3.5 to 5.5 lbs. Larger fruit size than Arava, but similar flavor and soft, juicy texture. Skin behind netting turns from green to yellow when ripe. (Cucumis melo) Disease Resistance: Fusarium Wilt (races 0, 1, 2), Powdery Mildew   Burgundy Okra 65 days Red Burgundy has performed well in our trials in northern Vermont. In general the reds are not as productive as the greens, but Red Burgundy is the most productive of all the reds. Pods can grow 6-8” long and remain tender. Plants have beautiful red stems and red veining through dark green leaves, making them ornamental as well as edible. (Abelmoschus esculentus) Gabriella F1 Hybrid Onion 100 days Fresh market, Grano–type globe onion. Gabriella is a mid-season, short day onion suited to Southern growing regions. Has yellow/brown skin, attractive globe shape, and large uniform bulbs which are very mild to sweet. A high yielding variety that resists bolting. Good general intermediate resistances against leaf diseases. Short day onion. (Allium cepa.) Cabernet F1 Hybrid Onion 105 days The earliest storage onion in our trials with yields of lovely burgundy bulbs, medium-sized and very uniform. Cabernet has shown broad adaptability in eastern and western states for both earliness and good size; in our 2013 northeast onion trials it finished at least 10 days earlier than other varieties. Very nice internal color, with attractive red rings. Recommended for mid-term storage (4-6 months). Late intermediate day. (Allium cepa.) Sprinter F1 Hybrid Bell Pepper 62 days green, 82 red Sprinter can go the distance, producing quality yields of uniform fruit over a long harvest window. On average, these large, blocky, 4-lobed fruit are bigger than Jupiter. Compact plants have good leaf cover to prevent sunscald. This variety is recommended for heated greenhouse production or unheated high tunnels as well as field crops, and sets fruit well under row cover. Sprinter is also strong against Blossom-end Rot and russetting. (Capsicum annuum) Disease Resistance: Tobacco Mosaic Virus (races 0-3) Iko Iko Sweet Bell Pepper 65 days purple/yellow, 85 days red/orange HMS Exclusive. A natural array of colors in a heavy-yielding bell pepper. Iko Iko produces a carnival blend of purple and yellow peppers ripening to tangerine and red. Immature fruit color ranges from dark purple to lavender to pale yellow to lime green. Get colorful peppers much earlier than with green-to-red types. Excellent for adding a polychromatic burst to an early season pepper display. Occasional residual purple blush on ripening fruit only adds to the fun. Iko Iko is a new release from the High Mowing Organic Seeds breeding program, where it was selected for color, yield, and upright frames with good leaf cover. (Capsicum annuum) Cider Jack F1 Hybrid Pumpkin 90 days HMS Exclusive. Cider Jack is a knock-out Jack O’ Lantern pumpkin with smooth, slightly ribbed, bright orange skin and a well-attached handle. Medium-sized pumpkins average 20-25 lbs, perfect for painting or carving. Semi-bush habit that fruits early. Plants put out 2-3 pumpkins each. Another successful result of our search for outstanding new varieties for organic growers. Exclusively produced by High Mowing in partnership with UNH’s Dr. Brent Loy, breeder of our Sugar Dumpling F1 winter squash and Marmalade F1 tomato. Excellent tolerance of Powdery Mildew. (Cucurbita pepo) Renegade F1 Hybrid Spinach 43 days Ultimate bolt tolerance with dark green, oval leaves. Makes an excellent all-season spinach with smooth round leaves. Grows a bit slower than Corvair but excels in quality of leaf when handled; never prone to brittleness or cracking. Excellent Downy Mildew and virus resistance – a proven variety for winter high tunnels. (Spinacia oleracea) Disease Resistance: Downy Mildew (races 1-7), Cucumber Mosaic Virus Honey Nut Butternut Squash 110 days From Cornell’s Vegetable Breeding Institute comes this specialty sure to gain attention. This 4-5” long mini-butternut is a dark, healthy, orange-buff. Smaller than Ponca with a much more uniform butternut shape. Simply cut in half and bake! Shows moderate to high levels of field resistance to Powdery Mildew; able to ripen to full maturity with high sugar content. Stores well. Note: Fruit initially appears dark green when immature and ripens to deep orangey-tan color. (Cucurbita moschata) Disease Resistance: Powdery Mildew Suzanne F1 Hybrid Tomato 60 days GREENHOUSE Incredible sweetness and early yields. Large cherry averaging 1/2 oz each. Firm flesh, crack resistance and split truss ripening make it an excellent choice for professional growers. Exceptional flavor similar to Matt’s Wild, with rich candy sweetness. Originally bred for greenhouse culture, we have found that it also works well as an outdoor crop. Indeterminate (Lycopersicon esculentum) Disease Resistance: Leaf Mold (races 1-5), Fusarium Wilt (race 0,1), Tobacco Mosaic Virus Mountain Princess Tomato 68 days HEIRLOOM Mountain sweet goodness! Grown for generations in the Monongahela National Forest region of West Virginia. Fruits are 8-10 oz, orange-red and perfectly round with a mild tomato flavor. Very productive plants bear quick and early. Works well in containers. A customer favorite for six pack sales. Determinate (Lycopersicon esculentum)   Marmalade F1 Hybrid Tomato 78 days HMS Exclusive. Finally, an orange slicer as sweet as the reds! It was love at first taste at Brent Loy’s trial fields at the University of New Hampshire. Fruits average 8-10 oz and are slightly flattened with firm flesh. Does well in the greenhouse or field. Produced in Wolcott, VT on the HMS seed farm. Perfect fruit without any blemishes. Semi-determinate (Lycopersicon esculentum) Disease Resistance: Fusarium Wilt, Verticillium Wilt Tokyo Market Turnip 35 days This is not your grandmother’s turnip! Sweet, petite, juicy, smooth-skinned, and delicious raw. At 1.5 – 2” in diameter, Tokyo Market salad turnips are practically bite-sized, and you may well want to eat them that way! Tender and mildly flavored. Roots are round – radish-like in shape and size – and pearly white in color. Excellent sliced raw in salads, chopped and tossed with vinaigrette, or glazed with soy sauce. (Brassica rapa ) Blacktail Mountain Watermelon 76 days An icebox-sized favorite similar to Sugar Baby in appearance, with a distinct crispness and sweet flavor that rivals modern hybrids. The fruit is solid dark green and has orange-red flesh. Fruit averages 6-10 lbs and 8” across. Vines reach 10’. Excellent keeping quality and yields. Harvest just before ripe and melons will finish off in storage, keeping for up to two months. (Citrullus lanatus) Dunja F1 Hybrid Zucchini 50 days Dark green zucchini with excellent disease resistance and high yields. When compared to market standards like Payroll, Dunja out-performed them in Powdery Mildew resistance and overall yield. A true standout! Fruits are straight and slightly ridged with an attractive, glossy, dark green skin. Plants are compact, single-stemmed and spineless.
