Here at High Mowing, we are committed to providing researched, high quality seeds of dependable varieties developed to bring you success in the field or garden. You will notice that we offer some varieties that are Plant Variety Protected or carry a Utility Patent. These rights give our partners the security they need to successfully develop the new and improved varieties that provide growers with adapted tools in our changing climate. We have chosen these varieties to be included in our selection because they have proven to be durable and highly disease resistant, productive in varying conditions, and to have notable flavor and visual appeal in our field trials.   Our goal remains to thoughtfully select reliable, productive varieties that allow organic growers to thrive. We are committed to providing the information we have about each variety, right up front, so that you feel empowered to make choices for your farm or garden that reflect who you are and what you need as a grower. The victories of our farmers and gardeners serve as building blocks for the new food system we know is possible and we are committed to helping shape a new way forward, one seed at a time.   OSSI – Variety pledged to the Open Source Seed Initiative.  These varieties have been protected under the OSSI’s pledge and the germplasm is open, unrestricted, and available for utilization by the general public in perpetuity.  BR – Breeder Royalty.  At High Mowing, we feel strongly about acknowledging the work breeders have done to develop varieties.  One way we do this is by paying annual royalty payments.  10% of sales are paid to independent breeders of select varieties in our catalog.  UP – Utility Patent.  Variety has patented genetic attributes that disallow an individual from saving, breeding with, or selling seed from parent plants.  Lasting 20 years, this patent protects plant breeders’ investments in the development of improved varieties.    PVP – Plant Variety Protected.  Protects unique seed and tuber varieties by prohibiting unauthorized commercialization.  Lasting 20 years, this protection guards the work of breeders who develop uncommon and desirable traits in both open pollinated and hybrid varieties.
