The People

"This farm was originally purchased by Emily's great, great, great grandfather in 1864. For decades the property was rented and farmed conventionally; we are committed to returning the land to a sustainable approach. We use organic growing methods, and all things work in harmony on our farm -- feeding the animals, plants and soil in a sustainable cycle, season after season."

The Product

"Miami F1 carrot has become our standard bunching carrot. We grow several acres of carrots and Miami fits right in with our production -- it's got strong tops for mechanical harvest, and can be a great summer storage carrot. We love that when we buy from High Mowing, we don't have to think about if the varieties are organic or not. Organic is the only way we want to manage our land. If that's our principle for our own farm and land, we believe it should extend to all of our farm inputs including our seed." Learn more about Silverthorn Farm here.
