I'm addicted to garlic!
In a large cast iron skillet, sauté fresh maitake mushrooms in olive oil, butter, and grated or powdered garlic. After a few minutes, add water to barely cover the mushrooms, stir, and continue cooking until the water is absorbed and the mushrooms are softening. Now add more garlic over the whole pan and more water, and cook some more until the water is gone. Taste heaven! Serve hot as a side dish or topping, or cool the mushrooms and then store in bags in the freezer for easy additions to your favorite dishes.
I love garlic and hope to grow my own!
Love the smell of them drying!
Thanks.
I would love to try yours and see if I would have better luck. I never win anything, so this would be a good chance again. Garlic in my ratatouille recipe is just the bomb.
Thank you!

Now I am in the process of helping my son do garden planning as he has just become a new homeowner. We have not decided which garlic to grow yet, but it will likely be a storage variety. My son is a chef in the Boston area and is very picky about his ingredients. I know he will love your garlic.
Inchellium Red, Chesnock Red, Romanian Red, Idaho Silver, Music, Spanish Roja, St. Helen's, Polish Hardneck, Siberian and Japanese.
I planted the cloves last year on October 10, 2014 and harvested the heads on July 17, 2015. They were bundled and tied, then hung to dry for a few weeks in our shed, with good air circulation-screened windows open at all times, door open only during the day. Once they are dried, my children and I then trim and clean the heads and put them in mesh bags we save from buying citrus fruits at the store. We write the variety name and the planting, harvesting and bagging dates on the paper strip sewn into the end of the bags, then put them in our basement for the winter.
Chesnock Red, Idaho Silver, Polish, Romanian Red, SIberian and St. Helen's did the best for us this year.
I made a chart showing the storage length for each variety and order them from least months of storage life to longest storing. That way I make sure to use the ones that store less first and don't have any waste that way. When I need a bag of garlic, I just consult my chart and make sure to use a bag of the shorter storing rocamboles first. When they are used up, I move on to the hardneck varieties and then on to the silverskins and porcelains.
Porcelain garlic varieties (one of the longest storing types) such as Romanian Red and Polish Hardneck, are said to have high allicin content, which helps us stay healthy, especially during the winter months.
Have some fun and grow your OWN garlic this year! All steps of the process are fulfilling and rewarding!

However it doesn't do as well here in NC as it did in WI. It's time to try something new.
